Musical Offerings

First & Calvary's "Musical Offerings" Concert Series is our ministry's gift to the community and has become a well-known venue for outstanding soloists and ensembles in Springfield and the surrounding area.

We gather for spiritual enrichment through music. Encouraged to pursue our gifts, we offer our music in active ministry to the glory of God. No admission is charged and the public is cordially invited to attend. All concerts are free, open to the public, and begin at 2:30 p.m.

Springfield Chamber Chorus

The Springfield Chamber Chorus is a highly-select, independent community choir, specializing in the performance of unaccompanied choral literature, both sacred and secular.  The Chorus is comprised of singers from the Greater Springfield, Missouri area.  Springfield Chamber Chorus strives to provide the Springfield community with professional-caliber performances of a wide variety of choral literature.  All singers are volunteers who rehearse for two hours, once a week.

Organist/Pianist Jonathan Story
In the Sanctuary
Jonathan Story holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Arkansas.  Dubbed “Fayetteville’s Piano Man” be the Northwest Arkansas Times, Jonathan Story has collaborated with the North Arkansas Symphony and The Arkansas Philharmonic.  He has served as organist of Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville since 2001, and has accompanied Singing Men of Arkansas since 2008.   Story will delight the audience with his gifts on both the piano and the sanctuary organ.

Gregory Hand is assistant professor of organ at The University of Iowa. He was awarded the Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan, where he studied with James Kibbie.  Dr. Hand is increasingly in demand as a performer and pedagogue. He has given recitals and masterclasses in the United States, France, Spain, Germany and Brazil. His debut CD, “The Complete Gospel Preludes of William Bolcom” will be released worldwide on the Naxos label in April 2012. This will be the world premiere recording of all twelve of these works.

The Missouri State University Concert Chorale

The Missouri State University Concert Chorale is one of the premier college choral ensembles in the United States.  The Chorale is in high demand for performances and tours extensively in the United States and abroad.  We are pleased to welcome the Chorale back to our "Musical Offerings" series, along with their new director,
Dr. Cameron LaBarr.

Ilace Mears, Hammered Dulcimer
Kelly O'Bryant, Low Whistle
In the Atrium
Both the Low Whistle and the Hammered Dulcimer have their roots in ancient civilizations. And while neither is an instrument frequently encountered on the concert stage, First & Calvary's own Kelly O'Bryant and Ilace Mears bring their unique musical perspectives together to weave lush tapestries of sound. You'll hear familiar hymns of faith, haunting traditional melodies, and joyful dance tunes, both old and new. Drawing upon music from the Sacred, Celtic, and Folk traditions, Ilace and Kelly will be joined by some of the finest acoustic musicians in the area for an afternoon of intimate music and song.

The Drury Singers

The Drury  Singers have performed through-out the United States and Europe.  The group frequently performs at the Missouri Music Educators Conference and  the Southwestern Division of the American Choral Directors Association. His choir performed in Carnegie Hall in 1994, and again in 1999  to perform the Fauré Requiem with the New England Symphonic Ensemble. The Singers frequently tour internationally with performances in The Netherlands, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Scotland, England, China, and most recently, Greece and Turkey. The choir is currently planning a tour to Scandinavia in 2015.

Thrill to the stirring sounds of the modern symphonic band!  This Missouri State University Community Band concert will feature classics of the band repertoire as well as selections by some of today’s most gifted composers.  The Community Band is comprised of various professionals with a genuine love for music who come together weekly for rehearsals.  Join us for an inspiring afternoon of music!
