Boys Choir of Springfield
The Boys Choir of Springfield was founded in 1999 by the Music Ministry of First & Calvary Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Missouri. Initial funding was provided by First & Calvary and the first uniforms were purchased by Mrs. Patricia Lockhart, in memory of her husband, Dr. Charles Lockhart. Auditions were held in the spring and summer of 2000 and the inaugural season of the Boys Choir of Springfield was 2000-2001.
The first Artistic Director of Boys Choir of Springfield was Robert Reed, an Elementary Music Specialist with Springfield Public Schools, who conducted the choir through the 2007-2008 concert season. In 2008 Mark Lawley, then the Choral Director at Willard High School, became the second Artistic Director of Boys Choir of Springfield. Mr. Lawley is currently the Director of Music Education at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri.
Boys Choir of Springfield is open to all boys in grades 3 through 6 by audition and there is no cost to participate in the choir. Rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings in the First & Calvary Choir Room and the choir meets and performs through the school year.
