Children's Mission ProjectsOur children give continuous support to local missions!
Each fall, members of First & Calvary are invited to donate new or gently used mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves for the Mitten Tree Project. Donated items are given to the Springfield Public School PTA Clothing Bank, where they are distributed to local children in need during the winter months. During the fall of 2013, First & Calvary collected 144 hats, 257 pairs of mittens and gloves, and 12 scarves. The Mitten Tree Projects begin in October.
Each spring, the children of F&C participate in the One Great Hour of Sharing Project by collecting change in “fish banks”. Their offerings are part of the church wide offering taken each Spring on Palm Sunday. In 2014, the children collected over $100 in change to go towards the efforts of One Great Hour of Sharing.
The Crosslines Food Challenge also happens in the Spring. The project concludes with a lively CAN-struction on in the atrium. Sunday School Classes from pre-school through fifth grade joined the fun. Each child that participated receives a blue ribbon from our honorary guests Neil and Juanita Cannon who have served as our fish day organizers for twenty-two years. Last year, First & Calvary successfully collected 2496 pounds of food (that's over a ton!), we also collected $1587.00 in cash donations for Crosslines.
